Lent began as an informal and simple observance prior to the Council of Nicea. But it eventually was formalized as a 40-day preparation for baptism and Easter observance. It was formally adopted in 325 CE. This was a practice of the Catholic Church.
Now Lent is generally accepted as a good discipline for any individual wanting to follow in the way of Christ and the Cross. Though you may be tempted to give up chocolate for 40 days or quit using Facebook during the 40 days, may we suggest using the time to reflect on life and work to living more closely to the way of Christ?
These Lenten meditations are a guided journey through Lent. In the 40 Lenten days we will feature a new article each day on the subject of preparation and how biblical people prepared their lives for various challenges. We hope you will join us on this little journey through Lent, beginning tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.
Our blessings to you.
The folks at LifeSpring Church.
