When we moved into the house there was a charming but dated Spanish colonial chandelier over the dining nook, the kind with wrought iron and amber glass and dangling teardrop crystals. We discarded everything but the crystals, which Monika hung in the morning window where they would catch and bend the light, throwing it liberally around the house. The light was the first thing we fell for in this house. Some of the windows are still without curtains.

For crystals to work you need a sunny east window where the low morning sun hits them as it beams across the room, in our case the kitchen. Some of the light bounces back into the dark corners under the cupboards. Other rays get bent and refracted into rainbow hues that dance around the floor. As long as they get direct light they continue to send their share everywhere.

I guess that’s the lesson. Stay in the light. Share as much as is given to you. Look for a dark corner to light up. Dance as long as you can. Trust that each morning will bring new light.

Our Bible is full of references to light. Leave your favorite in the comments below.
