This Sunday’s sermon takes its text from Philippians 3:4-14. Paul wrote this letter from prison to encourage and exhort one of the churches he started, but had to leave when it was still quite young.
Paul writes to remind them that God was still at work in them and would not give up on them until God’s work was completed. This would have been a strong motivation to keep up their Christian calling in the miss of intra-congregational struggle.
Paul’s advice to them was to not give up no matter what. He used athletic metaphors to help them to visualize a runner in an ancient race with his chest stuck out to break the tape at the finish line.
Questions for thought:
- What are some things that make you want to give up your Christian walk?
- What disciplines do you find to be helpful in keep up your walk?
- What do you think is the biggest internal threat to the church?
