Give up judging and learn to welcome others.
We people are bad about making comparisons and judging the motives of others. We often have a little list going in our heads which we pull out when we need some superiority. “I’ve got more education than s/he does.” “I live in a bigger house.” “My children are better behaved.” You get the idea.
It’s dangerous to get into that game. Everyone is inferior to someone/s else. Less money. Less education. Less common sense. Less kindness. Less social instinct. Plus, Jesus himself said to not get into the judging game. It’s a losing proposition.
Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged, Matthew 7:1-5.
Question: What do you tend to take special pride in when comparing yourself to others? On what occasions do you tend to pull it out of your pride box?
Activity: Find someone you typically judge to be inferior to yourself and compliment them on something you think they excel at.
Dear Jesus, you took on the body and status of an inferior human being. You loved people that had made a mess of their lives. You served anyone who came across your path. And we want to be like that. Please help us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
